This 60’ 8” Thrall® centerbeam fl at car has large black “MILWAUKEE ROAD” lettering
and runs on black Barber® roller bearing trucks. Thrall® Manufacturing Co. built
this 100 car series for Milwaukee Road in February and March of 1977. They were
acquired by the Soo Line in the mid 1980s, which was not quick to repaint. The “CHTT” in the consolidated stencil
box signifi es that this car was fi rst run by the ‘Chicago Heights Transfer Terminal Railroad’ serving the Thrall
plant. These cars were from a design used by Canadian National and centerbeam cars soon became an industry
standard due to the ease loading and securing lumber loads. WP was one of the fi rst roads to use this new design.
