This
60’ Gunderson centerbeam flat car with opera windows is painted
red with white lettering. It was built in January 1988 and runs
about the nation on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Centerbeams
(or center partition flat cars) are specialty cars designed
for carrying bundled building supplies such as dimensional lumber,
wallboard, and fence posts. They must be loaded symmetrically,
with half of the payload on one side of the centerbeam and half
on the other to avoid tipping over.
