This
61’ 8” bulkhead flat car w/load is painted brown with white
herald and lettering. It was built in November 1972 by the
Thrall Car Company of Chicago Heights, IL, and runs on Barber
Roller Bearing trucks. Bulkhead flat cars were very popular
for carrying lumber and other wood products. Southern Railway
came into existence in 1894 through the combination of the Memphis
and Charleston Railroad, the Richmond and Danville system and
the East Tennessee, Virginia and Georgia Railroad.
