These 40’ steel ice reefers with Preco fans are all aluminum with black lettering and bear both SP Lines logo and the Union Pacific shield. They were built in 1941 and serviced in 1946 (45698) and 1947 (44739).
They run on Bettendorf trucks. Originally built as standard R-40-14 reefers, they were rebuilt with experimental aluminum super-structures, but each had its own aluminum source. PFE 45698 was supplied with
materials by Reynolds Aluminum and PFE 44739 had aluminum supplied by Alcoa.
