Originally
built at the Despatch Shops in East Rochester, New York for
the Northern Refrigerator Car Line during the winter of 1957-58,
these cars were acquired when Merchants Despatch Transportation
(controlled by the New York Central railroad) purchased the
NRC in about 1928. The NRC operated under MDT control as a separate
entity until about 1962 when it was merged into the MDT.
