black 39' single dome tank car has white lettering and runs on black Bettendorf
trucks. Shippers' Car Line is a division of ACF Industries and operates cars under
the SHPX reporting marks. Many cars were leased out to private companies. The
diamond symbol on the dome denotes the manway bolted cover (dome closure) has
a built-in safety feature so that internal commodity vapor pressure can't cause
the cover to spring up when releasing the bolts. Newer tank cars we required to
have this feature, eliminating the need for the symbol. |
