These 50’
standard box cars with single doors and no roofwalks are painted
green with yellow logo and lettering. They were built in September
1965, serviced in August 1975, and run on Barber Roller Bearing
trucks. The Missouri–Kansas–Texas
Railroad was incorporated May 23, 1870. In its earliest days,
the MKT was commonly referred to as ‘the K-T’, which was its
stock exchange symbol; this common designation soon evolved
into ‘the Katy.’ On December 1, 1989, the Katy was
formally merged into the Missouri Pacific (MoPac) and ultimately
joined the Union Pacific® Railroad system.
