This two
bay Centerflow covered hopper with round hatches is painted light
gray with the red, white and blue UP shield and black lettering.
It was built in May 1981 by American Car & Foundry and runs
on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. It was part of a
large series of cars built for the Missouri Pacific, which merged
with the Union Pacific Railroad in 1982. Union Pacific first used
an early shield design for their company logo in the late 1980s,
and while an enduring symbol of the railroad, it has gone
through many changes in its over 100-year history. The current
shield and “Building America” slogan was trademarked in 2001 and
the company began using it extensively in 2002.
