This orange 40’
hy-cube box car with single door has black lettering and black
and white split rail IC logo and runs on
black Roller Bearing trucks. It boasts “Cushion Underframe”
in white and the slogan “Illinois Central Mainline of Mid
America” in black. 40’ hy-cubes were specifically designed for
use in large appliance service and were assigned to
specific appliance corporations, Whirlpool, Admiral, Philco,
etc. The mini hy-cube phase was short lived, and was quickly
overshadowed by longer and bigger cars.
