This 40’ Hy-Cube
box car with single door is painted brown with the black and
yellow “Chicago System” CNW logo. Lettering is yellow with the
exception of the black print on the white excess height markings
on the ends. The car was built in January 1969 and runs the
Midwest on Roller Bearing trucks. These Hy-Cubes were specifically
designed for use in large appliance service and were often assigned
to specific appliance corporations: Whirlpool, Admiral, Philco,
etc. The mini hi-cube phase was short lived, and was quickly
overshadowed by longer and bigger cars. This car was also equipped
with load dividers to help protect loads.
