Painted oxide red, this 50’ steel side, 14 panel, fixed end gondola with low cover was assigned to a large brass foundry at Waterbury, CT. along with 14 other covered gons in the fleet. Built by Bethlehem Steel in June of 1959 and lettered in white, these gondolas were designed to handle long bulky objects that cannot be exposed to the weather or loaded in box cars due to their length. After the lading is in, the roof is clamped down with a waterproof joint which is set between the two sections.
