The Mt. Vernon Car Company of Mt. Vernon, Indiana built this 50' steel side, 15 panel, fixed end gondola with low cover in October 1945. In February 1962 it was rebuilt in Sacramento, California. It is painted black with yellow and white lettering. It was originally equipped with a sectional roof and bulkhead to accommodate irregularly shaped loads, but was refitted in 1961 with a Standard Railway Equipment (SRE) roof and moveable bulkhead for steel bar service. Number WP 6053 was originally part of a 10-car fleet with a 137,000 lb capacity and Barber® roller bearing trucks.
