Maine Central #MEC 5530
40' USRA Steel Box Car with Single Door
Part #MTL-120040 N Scale Supply Price: $
New Release Date: September 1999
Rebuilt August of 1955, this 40' USRA steel box car with single door is from a 1004 car fleet originally built in July 1929. #5530 wears the MEC's mid-1950s scheme: green body with yellow lettering on sides and ends. The Pine Tree Route originated in 1862. In June 1981, the railroad was sold to Guilford Transportation Industries. Although never officially accepted as a standard, a number of railroads built near duplicates of these all steel box cars which were still around in the 60s. With their low height allowing them unrestricted interchange, they appear dwarfed among rail cars of modern design.
