Built in 1928 by both the Baltimore Car & Foundry Company and the Standard Steel Car Corporation, this B&O class M26D differs structurally from the proposed 1923 USRA 40' steel box car design with an overlapping flat panel roof style verses the Murphy roof. Equipped with the CRECO three-panel door and archbar trucks, #272500 is painted box car red with white lettering on the sides and ends. Utilizing Duryea Cushion Underframe construction, placement of safety appliances typical of steam-era box cars remained unchanged for decades to come.
