This box car red 30’ boxcar with single door with white lettering runs on brown Barber Coleman Archbar trucks. In the mid 1920s, the D&RGW Alamosa shops rebuilt this series of box cars. Their system of rebuilding resulted in an almost totally new car. This “total rebuilding” was a consequence of tax laws in effect at that time which gave tax benefits for rebuilding existing equipment. The system consisted of a schedule of dismantling, sorting, reclaiming, reusing and “totally rebuilding”. The Moffat Tunnel, a 6.2 mile long bore through the Continental Divide, is 9,239 feet above sea level at its apex and bypasses 27 miles of difficult railroad.
