This 40’ standard box with single door car was rebuilt in June of 1949 to be used by the Department of Defense to transport ammunition. Painted drab olive green with white lettering, it wears the insignia based on that of the WWI Corps: the car wheel on a rail is for rail transportation and the wings symbolize aviation logistics. The Mariner’s helm represents transportation by water and the U.S. highway marker shield is for land transportation. From a group of five cars, #24678 was later renumbered in 1958.
