This 40’ standard box with single door was rebuilt in June of 1949 to be used by the Department of Defense for transporting ammunition. Painted drab olive green with white lettering, it wears the insignia based on that of the WWI Transportation Corps: the car wheel on a rail is for rail transportation and the wings symbolize aviation logistics. The Mariner’s helm is for transportation by water and the U.S. highway marker shield is for land transportation. From a group of five cars, #24679 was renumbered in 1958.
