C.I.L. 1223 is a 40' standard box car with single door and is painted for Monon in light gray with red lettering. The logo, including the Hoosier Line nickname is painted in red and white. This car is part of a 25-car fleet that was built in October 1941. It was subsequently serviced in June 1948 at the railroads La Fayette, Indiana shops. Up to 1956 Monon was the unofficial name of the Chicago, Indianapolis & Louisville. The road was also called the Onion Belt Route as it transported onions from the fields of northwest Indiana.
