A class BS 204, this 50' rib-side box car with plug door and no roof walk was built in 1981. Painted box car red with white lettering on the sides and ends, #584899 is from a 176-car fleet. The NS stenciled individual car assignments on its freight cars for ownership reference. The Norfolk Southern Corporation is a holding company resulting from the 1982 merger of Norfolk & Western and the Southern Railway. NS consists of lines from Buffalo, NY, southwest from the Midwest to Kansas City, and a complex rail network from Washington and Norfolk to New Orleans.
