This 50’ standard box car with plug door is one in a 250-car fleet that was built in February 1957. It is painted box car red with white lettering. The 4,564 cu ft, 99,000 lb capacity car operates on Barber® roller bearing trucks. The large yellow and black ‘DF Insulated’ emblem guarantees that cargo shipped in this insulated car will be damage free. Cars such as this, with heavy insulation, were instrumental in expanding the shipment of temperature-sensitive cargos. The heavy insulation minimized the need for refrigeration units in the cars, reducing shipment costs.
