From a 200 car fleet, #48071 was built in February of 1960 and serviced in February of 1970 at Pine Bluff, Arkansas (PB). This class XM 50 standard box car with plug and sliding doors is painted box car red and lettered in white. A blue lightening bolt, outlined in white, streaks behind the white shield-type Cotton Belt Route logo. Usually called the Cotton Belt, it was Southern Pacifics principal subsidiary connecting St. Louis to Texas since 1932. The nickname originated in 1879 by a group of St. Louis cotton merchants who were finding an economical means of transporting cotton from Texas. The road was fully absorbed by SP in 1985.
