This 40' double-sheathed wood box
car with single door and vertical brake wheel was built in December
1918 by the American Car & Foundry for the Toronto, Hamilton &
Buffalos parent company, New York Central. It was serviced in
June 1951 in Hamilton, Ontario where it was painted box car red with
white lettering and T.H.B. banner. With the introduction of steel box
cars in the 1950s, this series of wood box cars was reassigned to rough
freight and lower class merchandise service. The THB found its beginnings
in the 1880s CP effort to connect Toronto with the Niagara River. From
1897 the THB was jointly owned by NYC and CP. CP acquired sole control
in 1977.
