This 40' Double-Sheathed wood car with single door is painted yellow with black stenciling on sides and ends. Built in February of 1917 and rebuilt in the late 30s, this car was leased by MWRR to Ball Glass Jars. It wears Ball's mason jar logo on the door in black and white. The inner and outer walls of this car were lined with individual boards to make the car stronger and guard its contents from the elements. Due to freight shifting, substantial damage to the wooden ends occurred, so many roads rebuilt the ends from wood to steel. Rebuilding wooden cars was an economical preference to buying new equipment. This car was equipped with 1918-1920 Andrews style trucks which combined a one-piece side frame and bolster castings with bolted-in journal boxes. This arrangement made it easy to change wheels and was widely used in upgrading older cars from archbar style trucks. With their immense steel underframes and Andrews cast-steel trucks, these cars made a significant contribution to the upgrading of railroad freight service in the 1920s, and many of them saw service clear into the 1950s.
