This class GHRX, 50’ gondola with fishbelly sides and drop ends was built in September 1944. Originally part of the Central Railroad of New Jersey fleet, Reading acquired it in the 1960s and reconditioned it for use in revenue service. In April 1973 it was repainted in this scheme of yellow with green and black lettering. Number RDG 96316 was then put to work for the railroad. The 1,745 cu ft, 154,000 lb capacity gon was used to ship ties out of the Koppers plant in Muncy, PA. The Reading Railroad was chartered in 1833 and began operations in 1842.
