San Francisco, California based Western Pacific Railroad decorated this 34' wood sheathed caboose with straight cupola to match the scheme of their California Zephyr. It is aluminum with orange band, black, white, and red Feather River Route herald, and black lettering. The caboose was built in October 1931 and painted in this fashion in March 1952 at WPs West Sacramento shop. Introduced in 1949, the California Zephyr, operated by WP, Rio Grande, and Burlington, was the first long-distance train to carry passenger Vista-Domes. It pulled five of them between Oakland, CA and Chicago, IL.
