The American Car and Foundry built this 52’ 2” riveted steel express reefer with plug door between 1947 and 1948. It is painted in the road’s passenger car colors of purple, silver, yellow, and black with white lettering. ACL 3042 is part of a 50-car fleet that was designed to move such time sensitive commodities as fruit, produce, and live plants. To help meet this need the cars were equipped with Commonwealth BX express trucks built by General Steel Industries. These trucks were designed for baggage and express cars on high-speed trains.
