This class P-23, 61' 8" bulkhead flat car was built by Evans Products in Plymouth, Michigan and was painted black with white lettering. It is one in a fleet of 75 cars that were built for lumber and pipe service. The lumber cars utilize a unique wood stacking method. Each pulpwood log (6-12 in diameter and 5 long) is stacked parallel to the bulkhead. The loads are then hauled to one of the many ACL on-line paper mills. Through this stacking method these cars could carry over 31 cords of wood weighing up to 90 tons. In the southeast, pulpwood cars are called woodracks.
