Number D.L.&W. 82209 is part of a 500-car fleet of 33 twin bay hoppers with rib sides, which was delivered in September 1953. It is painted black with white lettering. The slogan on the side clarifies that the 1,950 cu ft, 100,000 lb capacity, class HM hopper moved the high quality anthracite, which is cleaner burning than bituminous coal. The DL&Ws trackage ran from Scranton, PA to the Delaware River and Buffalo, NY. On October 17, 1960, DL&W merged with the Erie and formed the Erie Lackawanna Railroad. Today, cars from this series can be viewed at the Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, PA.
