40' Trailer Sold Separately
Built in February 1965 as a bulkhead flat car, ATSF converted this unit to a piggyback flatcar in April 1983. It is a Class FT-33, 57' 6" converted TOFC flat car and is painted white with black lettering. These modified cars are capable of carrying a 45 trailer. The modification of bulkhead flat cars for TOFC service occurred over a period of 20 months from February 82 to October 83. They kept their original class designation, but were renumbered and repainted from bright Indian red to white. Though these single-platform cars, may seem less efficient than their more familiar 89 counterparts, they are actually quite practical. The shorter length has better tracking around curves and though they dont have bridge plates or flush decks, ATSF loading areas are equipped with straddle cranes or side loaders. The white paint scheme signifies a non-retractable hitch setup.
