Pacific Car & Foundry built these 51’ 3-3/4” rivet side mechanical reefers in January 1956. They are painted with NP’s simple, standard mechanical reefer scheme of aluminum with a 5’ herald. They are equipped with roller bearing trucks and are capable of hauling 120,000 lbs in their 3,023 cu ft bodies. These cars were used to transport frozen foods. However, they were also equipped with electrical heaters for the purpose of hauling produce such as cherries, apples, potatoes, and bananas from freeze-prone areas like Minnesota’s Red River Valley, Seattle, and other parts of Washington.
