| This 51’-3¾” rib side mechanical
reefer is painted reefer orange with black ends and aluminum roof.
Side lettering and logos are printed black; end printing is in white.
When this car was built in 1960, PFE used mechanical reefers almost
exclusively for the ever-growing category of frozen food. Fresh
produce was mostly handled in ice refrigerator cars. And according
to the car painting and lettering specifications of the time, cars
which handled frozen food had silver roofs and black ends. The “LD”
signifies that this is a load-divider car which can be used to carry
shipments from various locations to consignees because of its compartmentalized
design. |
