This 40’ standard box car with single plug door and without roofwalk is painted Forest Service Green with aluminum ends and lettered in white. The multi-colored Smokey logo is rendered in Khaki and browns. It is car number 2 in a series of 4 M.O.W. cars. Smokey Bear became an American icon as the symbol for a forest fire prevention campaign after the orphaned black bear cub was found in 1950 after a catastrophic fire in the Capitan Mountains of New Mexico. Smokey has since become a universal symbol of fire safety and forest fire prevention in the United States. |
