This
light box car red 30’ box car runs on brown Barber Coleman Archbar
trucks. The Austin & North Western began as a narrow gauge
line in 1881 running from Austin, TX, to Burnet, TX. The real
push for building the line came when officials decided to build
the state capital (at Austin) with pink granite, which was acquired
at Marble Falls. On May 2, 1882, the line opened for service from
Austin to Burnet. Then in May 1888, the line was completed to
Marble Falls. In 1891, before the standard gauge conversion, the
A&NW had a fleet of 41 box cars.
