In December 1996, the American Car and Foundry built this 3 bay ACF Center Flow® covered hopper with elongated hatches. It is painted for Illinois Central in dark gray with white lettering. The IC logo is also in white. The 5,150 cu ft capacity hopper rolls on Barber® roller bearing trucks. The IC is known as the most efficient and safest railroad in North America. In February 1998, Canadian National purchased IC, but kept the cars’ markings in order to avoid paying additional Canadian sales taxes.
