Pennsylvania
Railroad rebuilt 40’ boxcars in the late 1950s to extend their
service life amid a boxcar shortage. Later, after being merged
into Penn Central, they received new PC green paint in the late
1960s. This car was outfitted with a variation of the Penn Central
logo, in white and red paint, with Bettendorf trucks. Penn Central
was formed through the merger of Pennsylvania Railroad and New
York Central, and operated until 1976 when it was rolled into
Conrail Corporation.
