Built in the
early 1970s, these 50 two-bay Airslide hoppers with Barber
Roller Bearing trucks featured the GATX Service Driven
logo. These cars were specially designed with an air-permeable layer
inside the bays that could help loosen fine-grained commodities
that would often settle en-route, like powdered sugar, thus making
unloading easier. General American Transportation Corporation, now
known simply as GATX, is a large railcar leasing company, with over
122,000 railcars in the fleet. |
