Built in October 1962 by Eastern Car Works, this 40' box car with plug door, without roofwalk is painted in the Mandarin Orange paint scheme of black, white and orange with lettering on sides, ends, and doors variously in black and white. Chosen at random from a 1100 car fleet in 1978 to wear this promotional paint scheme, #35893 lead a 58 car consist into Eastern Canada transporting the years’ Mandarin oranges for the Christmas season. It was featured in a print media campaign to capitalize on successfully moving its largest shipment to other shippers. There was only one car wearing this scheme and the whole fleet was removed from service in 1992.
