ATSF cabooses
were often rebuilt later in life and modernized with additional
amenities for crews, including refrigerators and new seating
areas. These cabooses feature different paint schemes to denote
type of service. The Mineral Brown paint scheme denoted local
service only, the Indian Red scheme with the white cupola denoted
PC radio equipment and/or transfer service, while the all-red
caboose was for mainline freight service.
