On
January 17, 1920, Prohibition went into effect, banning the
manufacture, transportation, and sale of intoxicating liquors.
People who wanted to keep drinking found inventive ways to
do it. Illegal manufacturing and sale of liquor (known as
“bootlegging”) became prevalent throughout the 1920’s and
