Shay #12 has just backed off the Devil's Gate bridge. Its heading downhill to the loading platform.
This 30' Stock car has had an interesting modification. After decades of service its still hauling cattle.
Wood Caboose #0574 has been carefully restored.
Here Shay #12 is backing its train down to the beginning of its run back to Silver Plume. The train will start underneath Devil's Gate bridge seen in the background.
As the Shay started uphill, it was out of sight around the curve. But you had no doubt it was working up the hill, the chuff of a three cylinder engine is unmistakable. I was standing about six feet from the track as it went by, you feel the heat coming off the boiler and you feel the sound of each stroke pounding.
