Devil's
Gate Bridge is 300' long, stands 100' over the floor of the canyon.
The arc is an 18½ degree curve on a 2% grade. |

Soon
the #40 disappeared and we could only follow its progress by the blast
of its whistle. A few minutes later Shay #12 came into view backing
its train down to Devil's Gate. |
|
If
you have never heard a Shay, let me tell you this is an incredible
experience. The three cylinders and the low gearing make for a impressive
blast of sound. |

by teh West Side Lumber Co. and the West Side & Cherry Valley
