This 34 wood sheathed caboose
with slanted cupola is painted brown with orange ends and white
herald and lettering. It was built in December 1928 and runs on
swing motion caboose trucks. This railroad was originally chartered
as the Sabine and Galveston Bay Railroad and Lumber Company in 1856;
the name was later changed to the Texas and New Orleans Railroad
in 1859. In 1881 C. P. Huntington, acting for the Southern Pacific
Railroad Company, bought the Texas and New Orleans, making the Southern
Pacific her parent company. In 1961 it was merged with parent company
Southern Pacific and ceased to exist as a separate entity. |
