Built
for Conrail in 1994, this three-bay hopper with Barber Roller
Bearing trucks eventually made it to the Norfolk Southern roster
and was rebuilt by FreightCar Americas Roanoke Shops.
With a 286,000-pound gross weight, these hoppers are used for
coal and coke service on the east coast. Today, NS is one of
the largest Class 1 Railroads with over 30,000 employees and
operates nearly 22,000 miles of track in the Eastern and Midwestern
United States.
